Pond Home's activities program is lively and varied. To keep everyone fit in mind, body, and spirit is the goal of all staff. The activities program is coordinated by our full-time Activities Director.

Pond Home offers exercise and strength training classes on a regular basis. These are well attended and residents are often surprised by the significant improvement they see in their own balance and strength. Each morning stretching exercises occur in the dining room following breakfast. In nice weather residents and staff enjoy the walking paths and gardens around the campus of Pond Home and The Community at Pond Meadow, the independent living community that is on the campus with Pond Home. These are just some of the activities offered to keep our residents' bodies fit!

To help with mind fitness all types of word games and recollection trivia games are offered. They include crossword puzzles, New England trivia, Tri-Bond, Silver Screen trivia, and word scrambles to name just some. A lively Bingo game is held each week with the best prizes!

While all rooms have a wired data line for those residents who want their own computer, the Activities office offers access to a computer for all residents. This computer has a large type keyboard and photo quality printer attached to it. We provide a hands-on introductory lesson for all residents who are interested, teaching them how to use our email account and search the internet. Friends and family can send pictures and emails to inquiry@pondhome.org. Just be sure to put the resident's name in the subject line and we will make sure this mail is delivered to them, even if the resident isn't computer savvy.

For spirit fitness Pond Home has regularly scheduled religious services and mass provided by the local clergy. Many church, service, and community groups visit Pond Home residents annually. The musicians and entertainers we hire include a regularly scheduled music therapist, armchair traveler program, gifted Broadway-type singers, and sing-a-long leaders. We have access to a large collection of musical selections from the 1900's forward and have a well tuned player piano to add to the fun.

Weekly afternoon bus rides occur on our 14 passenger, wheelchair accessible minibus. These trips have included fall foliage tours, holiday light sit-seeing tours, trips to LaSalette Shrine, Council on Aging events, neighborhood tours and ice cream stops! Residents enjoy sharing their knowledge with the rest of the participants when the bus travels through their old neighborhood or town.

If your spirit is lifted by making or viewing beautiful things, then Pond Home is the place for you. Residents enjoy making beautiful rubber stamped greeting cards, decorated birdhouses and wreaths. With the support of the Pond Home staff residents pursue hobbies of painting, needlework, floral arrangement, scrap booking, decoupage and much more. If getting your hands in dirt is what your spirit needs residents are welcome to help with plants or gardens in and outside the home.

When residents just need to relax and socialize there is plenty of that available at Pond Home also. Summer afternoons will find many residents out in the garden under the umbrella tables enjoying lemonade and cookies. Evening "come as you are" ice cream socials are popular, as well as cocktail hours.

With the help of some very dedicated volunteers the activities staff makes it all happen for our residents! Pond Home's activities program is always evolving. When each new resident arrives the Activities Director meets with them to learn a past history of interests, abilities, and what they would like to try. Sometimes they discover talents and interests they never knew they had!
